Customer Question

She is about 6 months old and has hardly eaten today. She drank a little water but threw it up right away. She has also been lethargic. She didn't feel well yesterday, but no where near as bad as tonight.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. This sounds like it might be serious. I'll let the Veterinarian know what's going on ASAP. Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about the dog?
Customer: Not that I can think of. Everything had been pretty normal until now.

I am Dr. Snow, and I can try and help you tonight. Has your puppy eaten anything unusual? Has she been vaccinated? Any diarrhea?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
She sometimes tries to eat poop, either hers or other animals, but I don't think she has recently. I did let her out onto our patio yesterday morning and there are some weeds out there. I know there aren't any poisonous ones (at least not for humans). As for diarrhea, her last BM was about 4 hours ago and it was mixed -- both runny as well as normal -- and very foul smelling. Nothing since. No, she hasn't been vaccinated.

Ok, that is a bit concerning. If she has eaten other dogs poop in the past, it could be intestinal parasites causing her symptoms. If she hasn't had any vaccines yet, then I would worry about parvovirus, depending on your area. Has she been anywhere other than your yard? Any exposure to other puppies?

It sounds like I'll need to take her to a vet ASAP. Thanks for your help.

How is your puppy today?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
She had Parvo and died yesterday afternoon. Nothing else to be done or said. Thank you. We can stop this conversation now.
