The alkaline phosphatase is a nonspecific enzyme and the degree of elevation doesn't correlate well with the severity of the disease. It usually indicates biliary stasis (sludging) but not the cause of it. Cushing's can cause such an elevation but there needs to be supportive evidence of Cushing's before I would test for it; in other words, if Scooter isn't eating you out of house and home and drinking like a fish, he isn't cushingoid. How old is Scooter, please?
