I might dose a dog with up to 7 mg/lb (~200 mg for your pup) of allopurinol. How many milligrams was in your husband's pill, please? it should be either 100 or 300 mg. In either event, your pup should remain unaffected. This drug is very well-tolerated. As with ingesting anything strange, transient gastrointestinal distress in the form of inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea can result but shouldn't need to be treated. I have to leave my computer for a few hours but promise to reply as soon as I return if need be.
