She suddenly fell over & got up & is walking like she's

Customer Question

She suddenly fell over & got up & is walking like she's drunk. Then she threw up, she had a quite a bit of turkey for supper.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. This sounds like it might be serious. I'll let the Veterinarian know what's going on ASAP. Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the dog?
Customer: She's alert, eyes clear, responsive.

Hi there, how old is you dog and what breed is she? Is she taking any meds and does she have any major medical problems in her past? - Dr. C

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
She is almost 3 yrs old, she's a shi tzu mix (she's a rescue) She does have a script for metacam, but doesn't use it much. it's for hip problems. She had severe weight loss when they found her& a respiratory infection .

When she fell over, did she urinate or defecate? Have any abnormal movement to her eyes? Did she paddle her legs? What color were her gums? How does she look now?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
She did not urinate or defecate, no REM No sign of seizure. her gums were normal she is walking, but very slowly, a little unsteady. Since she vomited, I'm wondering if the turkey she had at supper may have something to do with it.
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Ok, she just got up again, followed me into a different room. Her tail is up & she has a little bounce back in her gait. I really think it was the turkey.

Good, I'm so glad she is feeling better! I guess you know not to feed her anymore turkey, just in case! Overfeeding could have had something to do with it as well. One of the body's vomit centers is in the brain. So a big meal could have triggered that. Hope that she doesn't have any more scary episodes! - Dr. C
