Our Great Dane who is about 9 years old. She will not lay

Customer Question

Hi Pearl,
JA: I'll do all I can to help. What is the matter with the dog?
Customer: Our Great Dane who is about 9 years old. She will not lay down. She has been sitting upright since 5pm central time and the only time she does lay down is for a few moments because she's tired. She has been eating bits of boiled chicken and rest that we been hand feeding and she's also been drinking.
JA: Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Veterinarian will know how to help the dog. What is the dog's name?
Customer: Hemi
JA: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Hemi?
Customer: She was a puppy mill dog who we rescued.

Is she showing any signs of bloat- distended abdomen? Dry heaving?

Can you check her gum color- is it pink or pale?

Is she breathing normally or fast/ labored?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No, bloat and or distended abdomen. She is a puppy mill so it is really has to tell. She has been dry heaving, her gum color is pink and fast/labored breathing. She is finally laying down.

If she's bloated and dry heaving, then she needs to get to a vet right away. If this is true bloat where her stomach is twisted, that is a surgical emergency. It usually doesn't go on over 2 days, but maybe it was not twisted last night and now it is twisting.
