Hi, this is Dr. Hill. Sound like Juno either has puppy pyoderma (common skin infection) or an allergic reaction. If the areas are itchy, you can give him PLAIN benadryl 1mg/pound of body weight by mouth every 12 hours. Giving him a bath with an oatmeal based shampoo will also be soothing. Ultimately, is the rash does not resolve or improve significantly within 24 hours, then you should take him to your local veterinarian. He may needs antibiotics or a medicated shampoo. I hope this helps and that Juno is better soon. Feel free to ask additional questions. Take care.

20 lbs is 20mg if Benadryl?
Could he be allergic to other animals? ( we have guinea pigs )
Expert:  Kelly Hill replied 1 year ago.

Hi. Unlikely to be allergic to guinea pigs. Allergies are typically a combination of environmental (inhaled allergens) and food. Benadryl comes in 25 mg tablets, so it is okay to give a 25 mg tablet. take care.
