Customer Question

Brought dog to vet an hour ago for nausea, prolonged and deep panting with gagging. No abdominal tenderness, but trying to eat grass and gagging? Bloodwork didn't show anything unusual and temp was about normal. They gave her a shot of cerenia and sent her home with me; said to take her to emerg. vet if it gets any worse. She's still panting heavily and wants to eat grass. This has been going on for about three hours now.
-Should I let her eat grass?
-anything else I can do? I hate watching her so distressed...

Hello, I'm Dr. Deb and will do my best to help you today.

I'm sorry for this concern about your dog. I do have a few additional questions to ask about her first if you don't mind:

1. What breed is she?

2. How old is she?

3. Would you say there's an intensity or desperateness to her wanting to eat grass? Is she trying to eat other things, too?

3. Is she actually vomiting phlegm or bile or food?

There may be a slight delay after I receive your answers since I have to type up a response to you. Thanks for your patience. Deb
