Customer Question

11 years old. Respiration 11 breaths per minute. Eating little if nothing for 3 days. Dry nose. Totally lethargic.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Veterinarian will know how to help the dog. What is the dog's name?
Customer: Heidi
JA: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Heidi?
Customer: No. She's been fine.

I called our vet and they haven't returned the call:( Now wondering if we should go to vet ER.
Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Heidi that is a bit slow for a dog.

Does he feel feverish when you touch his ears.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not really. Heidi is a girl:)
Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Sorry, our tech said that Heidi was your name.

She certainly looks sad.

Does she have any chronic diseases?

Any diarrhea?

Her abdomen looks full. Does she look bloated to you?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
That's okay! No chronic diseases. I picked up poop today and I didn't see any diarrhea. Maybe she hasn't even gone??? Not sure about bloating. Maybe but belly seems soft, not hard.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Do you think it's okay if I monitor her overnight and take her in first thing in morning?
Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

If you gently press on her abdomen does she react as if she was uncomfortable?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
She growls but she is a growly bitch.
Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Because she is not acutely ill you can do that. But because this developed rather quickly do check on her frequently during the night.

If she gets worse take her to the ER.

Otherwise take her to your vet tomorrow.

Give her small amounts of water frequently to reduce the chance of vomiting.
