Alprazolam (Xanax) is a reasonable anxiolytic benzodiazepine for your purposes. I dose it at between 0.01 - 0.025 mg/lb (1 -2.5 mg for him) 2-4 times daily as needed. If used for acute phobieas (thunderstorms, e.g.) it should be given 30-60 minutes in advance of the expected trigger. Please talk to his vet about the new Sileo (dexmedetomidine) from Zoetis which is a new approach to this kind of phobia.

Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
