Our 12 week old boxer/pitt mix pulled a lamp off a table

Customer Question

our 12 week old boxer/pitt bull mix pulled a lamp off a table onto her. we were gone at the time & found the mess when we got home. her left eye and her upper lips are beginning to swell. I gave her 1/2 of a Benadryl tablet and an 81mg asprin. we looked her over very well and found that she sustained no cuts or lumps anywhere, however upon cleaning up the mess we found that the cfl bulb that was in the lamp had broken. are we doing the right thing, we cannot afford to take her to the after hours clinic.

I'm so sorry that I have been so long.

How much does she weigh and I'll tell you if the aspirin dose was OK. The Benadryl won't do much besides making her sleepy. What was the strength of the Benadryl?

Is her balance alright?

Look at her eyes. Are the pupils the same?

You said that her left eye was swollen. Did you mean the eyelids?

I hope that you did not give up on me. Once again i apologize. I was working on a very complex question and it took longer than expected.

I checked on the cfl bulbs. Some contain mercury which should not be a problem from one possible exposure. Watch for vomiting.

I think that the swelling is due to a blow to the face when the lamp fell.

Pull the eyelids out gently and see if there is any small laceration.

Same with the lips.

I'll email you tomorrow to see how she is doing. I don't know what time zone you are in but I am in Hawaii.
