My dog has recently gotten over a bout of pancreatitis,

Customer Question

Hello, my dog has recently gotten over a bout of pancreatitis, kennel cough, and is presently being treated for valley fever. I am making all of his food. It consists of egg whites, chicken or turkey, rice, green beans and cottage cheese. I have noticed that his poop will have pea sized yellowish balls in them. The balls usually come out at the end of his stool. What could the balls be? He is not being fed peas.

I would think that they are the bean seeds from your green bean pods.

Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Break one of your green beans and see if what he is passing is the same size as the green bean seeds.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, they are bigger than that and round not oval.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I am worried it may have something to do with the pancreas
Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

How about any supplements he is getting?

You know I've never seen such a thing in the stool of a pancreatic patient. But let me do a quick check with my veterinary sources.

I'll be back in a few minutes.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I haven't given him any supplements.

The other strange thing is that the balls are grouped together...not spread out within the stool.
Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

What breed is your dog and age?

Did your dog have an ultrasound to diagnose the pancreatitis?

Some dogs have gall stones or bladder stones from concurrent conditions.

Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Are these balls hard and solid. What size are they?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
He is a black lab 13 did not get the ultrasound...diagnosed with blood test...truly I haven't touched the balls to see if they are hard but my guess is they would be jelly like, but again not sure, they are about pea size

He has also recently started throwing up right after he eats. So instead of 4 meals a day a feed him 6 small meals three in the morning and three in the evening. He is taking Fluconazole 350mg for valley fever, 2xs per day.
Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Ok, it would be very unlikely to pass a number of gall stones. They are usually single and found in x-rays and ultrasounds.

Bladder stones can be a number of sizes but your dog would not pass them unless he licked up his urine.

Can you take a photo and send it to me?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I will do it tomorrow if that is ok I picked up the poop and through it away. Ewww LOL
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Should be threw not through

Good morning. I'll check my emails from time to time to see if you sent a photo.

OK

Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Has he had a BM and does it have those balls in it?

If you see them please take a photo.

Also press on one with a disposable spoon and see if it is solid or soft.

And what is his name?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Still no balls His name is Blackberry
Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Thanks for the update.

It is possible that Blackberry (wonderful name) won't pass any more.

I talked with a few colleagues and none of them had ever seen anything with that description. We were all hoping for a picture.

If he still doesn't pass any balls in the next two days we can assume that there win't be any.

Is everything else OK?
