Dogs are 40lbs so 4ml?

Ronnie, there are three main considerations at this time...

1) A systemic antibiotic isn't usually necessary when treating otitis externa (outer ear infection). They are essential, however for otitis interna/media (inner/middle ear infection).

2) Penicillin has too narrow a spectrum; in other words, too many bacteria found in ear infections would be resistant to it.

3) Durapen hasn't been recommended for use in dogs for many years. The benzathine penicillin doesn't reach adequate tissue levels to be effective and so if this product is used, only the procaine G might be helpful and it's usually dosed at 10,000 IU/lb once or twice daily for at least 5 days and up to a couple weeks depending upon what type of infection is present.

40 lbs x 10,000 IU/lb = 400,000 IU 400,000 IU/150,000 IU of procaine G = 2.7 mL subcutaneously once or twice daily for 5-14 days

Ok so maybe it will help maybe it won't... Because of all different strains of bacteria ok well understood. So I can use it at proper dosage and watch for signs of allergic reaction 20-30 min after the shot?

Yes, that would be smart. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
