I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. In these cases I'll eschew over the counter antidiarrheals such as kaolin/pectin products and bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto Bismol) and, instead, worm the pups with either pyrantel pamoate or fenbendazole. Both of these wormers are available over the counter. Pyrantel pamoate should be repeated at 2 week intervals; fenbendazole (preferable because it not only addresses all of the nematodes but also the protozoan Giardia) is dosed daily for 3 consecutive days. The above said, I don't see a contraindication to the use of kaolin/pectin or bismuth subsalicylate unless these constitute the only therapy for the pups. It doesn't if you've begun sulfadimethoxine (Albon).
