Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Health Questions
Hello, my name is***** and I am happy to assist you and Jade today. I have a few questions to ask that will assist me in better assessing the situation.
1. How long ago was the IBD diagnosed by a veterinarian?
2. What foods ahve you already tried?
3. What medications have been tried?
Thank you, ***** ***** forward to helping you
1) 6 months diagnosed
2) cooked turkey with spinach sweet potatoe
I have done some serious research on IBD , talked to Hollistic folks
I read that i had to feed her a completely different protein
I cooked her the turkey , she has always been a picky eater,
but today for the first time i found her eating dry kibble from my other dogs food
i also have her on IV ...seriously surprised she is still alive . I am frustrated on a level 10+
she was also on the Hills stuff she hated it.
You are correct that for IBD, you want to feed a protein and carb source they have never had. I have also used Royal Canin's Ultimino (it is a completely amino acid based diet that the immune system cannot register)
1.What are her symptoms? Diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss?
2.What breed is she?
3. Was prednisone the only medication tried? Any metronidazole, Tylan, probiotic?
4. Was it confirmed by the GI panel that measures cobalamine and folate levels?
I'm asking because almost every IBD case I have ever seen has some level of response to prednisone therapy and I am concerned that it may be something like EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency).
I am going to have to head to bed, but I will be back on tomorrow on my lunch break and can provide additional answers.
Hello, I did not hear back from you, were your initial questions answered or can I be of further assistance?
I was reading that i should check if jada has parasites. Parasites can be connected to IBD,
if she has pancrearic insuffciency will a Probiotics For Pet..help
i am so frustrated..
Hello, I was clearing through my questions and noticed this. I am so sorry! I did not see this reply! I do agree with either a fecal sample to rule out parasites or a broad spectrum dewormer.
Probiotics help to put good bacteria in the gut, you would need pancreatic enzymes to treat for pancreatic insufficiency. I have given IBD pets a pancreatic enzyme trial before (it doesn't hurt if they don't need them, but high quality ones can be pricey).
Let me know if I can be of further assistance!
