The best I can tell you is that it won't hurt. Whie controlled clinical studies demonstrating efficacy and a standardized form and concentration of silymarin (milk thistle) are lacking, it's being used to treat a variety of liver diseases in humans and domestic companion animals. It's mostly of interest in treating chronic and acute liver disease, cirrhosis, and as a hepato-protective agent when hepatotoxic agents are ingested such as poisonous mushrooms. I would pleased to review any test results you could upload to our conversation. At this time I know only that your elderly dog is icteric (jaundiced).
