Customer Question

My Cavalier King Charles spaniel (two years old) has a dislocated
hip and a vet has attempted to relocate and failed. Surgery has
been recommended to trim the bone and hope sinew develops
to hold the bone in place. She is adapting quite well as we've
had to wait for three weeks for a surgical appt. What are the long
term consequences of not doing the surgery?

Hi there I am Dr. Kane and will try to assist you with your CKC Spaniel. From what I understand, the amount of pain would be decreased significantly and overall mobility would improve after the the healing process is complete post-surgery. It will never be a totally normal joint either way, but I would say he will be much better off in the long-term with surgery. I hope this has helped.
