Customer Question

My Yorkie has been eating cicadas and yesterday developed diarrhea. Today it has some blood and I do see cicada parts. I have been trying to keep her from eating them. Should I be concerned?

I am sorry to hear you are worried about cicadas.

Cicadas are not toxic insects, but the hard outer shell can irritate the lining of the colon and cause bleeding, mucus, and diarrhea. If she is eating, and not vomiting, she should be fine. You can try a little Pepto Bismal (1/4th teaspoon) if the diarrhea persists.

Let me know if this helps and what else I can help with.
