Customer Question

I have a 4 week old sharpie puppy. She is the only one in the litter that rarely opens her eyes. She has a greenish discharge coming from both eyes. What should I do?

An infectious conjunctivitis is uncommon in puppies and so I would check for eyelid abnormalties (ectropion/eyelids folding outward; entropion/eyelids folding back into the eye) and eyelash abnormalities (distichiasis/eyelashes growing from abnormal places; trichiasis/eyelashes growing toward and irritating the cornea) in her breed. Because significant damage can occur to the cornea in a short time, time is of the essence. Please have your vet take a look at this pup at your earliest convenience. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
