Good morning ; Our chocolate lab was diagnosed with hyper calcemia

Customer Question

Good morning ; Our chocolate lab was diagnosed with hyper calcemia on his routine physical yesterday. Our vet believes that Harley has throid cancer since she has suggested ultra sound along with a needle biopsy of the throid gland. Then surgery if needed.
Both my wife and I don't want to put Harley thru these tests and surgery. If this is cancer how much longer can we expect Harley to be part of the family,He will be 10 in October. Also, what would be the signs when time is getting closer, He runs eats well and shows no signs of caner,
his calcium cont was 13 yesterday. I was told normal is 11-12 .Hehas been normal allthese years

Hello, I'm Dr. Deb and will do my best to help you today.I'm sorry for this concern for Harley. I do have a few additional questions to ask about him first if you don't mind: I'm assuming that he has no symptoms such as anorexia, weight loss, increased thirst/urination, diarrhea, etc?Does he have an enlarged mass in his throat where his thyroid gland would be located? There may be a slight delay after I receive your answers since I have to type up a response to you. Thanks for your patience. Deb
