Customer Question

My dog has been vomiting and having diarrhea for 3 days. I gave her rice mixed with ground beef, and some pepto bismol. She ate and then 4 hours later vomited the whole thing. She is drinking a little water. Today I made her rice with pumpkin purée and she won't touch it.
She's been resting all morning, but when she goes outside to pee, she acts normal, chasing the ball & running around the yard. What can I do now and will she get better soon?
She's hungry, but won't eat.

Hello. Thanks for the question. Ideally, I would get her seen by a vet with 3 days of signs. She should be given some fluids, anti-nausea meds (Cerenia) and antibiotics to clear up the diarrhea- usually Metronidazole. If you want to try something at home, I prefer Pepcid AC (Famotidine) for the upper GI signs- 10 mg every 12 hours. For diarrhea, you could try a one time dose of Loperamide (Imodium) 2 mg. Ideally, though, I would see a vet for more effective meds that I mentioned above. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
