Our 4 month old maltipoo puppy jumped out of my hands yesterday

Customer Question

Our 4 month old maltipoo puppy jumped out of my hands yesterday morning and has been limping since. Luckily I wasn't higher than 1 foot from the ground at the time, but he still seems to be limping. He pretended to stop limping by trying to put some weight on it but now when he runs he lifts his injured back right leg up. What do you recommend we do?

Hi this is Dr. Gabby. So when he walks will he put any weight at all on it? I know you said when he runs he holds it up.

Yes he tries but then he goes back to hobbling

Ok, he should have an x-ray then to make sure there is not a fracture.I know he is probably very active at his age but try to keep him as still as possible.Usually if it is just a mild fracture, or a severe sprain, he could wear a splint for 4-6 weeks. But the non-weight bearing is concerning and can indicate a more serious injury. So I would have him x-rayed tomorrow.Massaging the leg is not really a good test for a fracture. The vet will know how to manipulate the joints and palpate for a fracture.Does that help? Do you have any additional questions?

Hi Mickey,

I'm just following up on our conversation about Teddy. How is everything going?
