Both the toxic ibuprofen and naproxen should be avoided in dogs. The only over the counter analgesics that are safe are aspirin dosed at 10 mg/lb with food every 12 hours and acetaminophen dosed at 7 mg/lb thrice daily. We rarely dose dogs with anticholinergic drugs such as butylscopolamine because much better "anti-cramping" drugs are available - usually prescription narcotics such as atropine/diphenoxylate or the over the counter antidiarrheal loperamide (Imodium). Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
