There's certainly a higher incidence of dystocia (difficult birth) as the age of the dam increases but Stormy isn't necessarily in danger. You'll need to be quite proactive with her. She should be thoroughly examined by her vet at this time including vaginal scoping looking for anatomical disorders which might prevent normal birth. A senior/geriatric diagnostic panel of blood and urine tests should be performed looking for age-related disorders that might affect parturition. Her gestation can be followed along by sequential abdominal ultrasounds. Finally, it would be prudent to make sure that you have an advice nurse or vet available to consult with when she delivers and also know where your closest 24-hour facility is located in case a dystocia arises.
