My little Australian terrier 5 years old and in good health

Customer Question

My little Australian terrier 5 years old and in good health was fed Blue Buffalo Dog food that had elevated amounts of Vitamin D in it. He began to drink a large amount of water and urinate frequently. He also appeared more lethargic than usual. I have just discovered this problem with the dog food and immediately stopped feeding my dog this food. I am concerned about any permanent damage to his kidneys. He had been given this dog food for about 3 weeks.

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you with your wee one today.

Do you know how much Vitamin D was in the diet per 100g fed? How much were you feeding daily ?

What is his weight?

Is his urine watery/dilute?

Is he passing large volumes of urine?

Can you give me an estimate of how much water he was drinking per day?
