We got 7 n one shots month old puppies. My daughter's friend

Customer Question

We got 7 n one shots for 2 month old puppies. My daughter's friend gave one of them just the liquid part, should we mix the dry part w/ distilled water and administer it, or should we just get another shot combo to give her? If giving another full shot how soon should we give it?

Hi, I can help you with your question today.

Do NOT inject distilled water into the puppy - this is not sterile and is likely to cause an abscess.

You have two options:

What are they?
Expert:  brisadog replied 1 year ago.

1) purchase sterile diluent (or request a vial of sterile diluent from your regular vet) and use to reconstitute the dried cake. Then administer.

2) Wait 3 weeks and vaccinate as usual.

I would not vaccinate with a second dose of leptospirosis at this time.

should we get this diluent and give this shot now or should we wait and give a whole new shot in three weeks?
Expert:  brisadog replied 1 year ago.

Either way would be safe. If possible, I would get the diluent and give it now - then we can make her as protected as possible.

Would a pet store carry this diluent? Would this be saline?
Expert:  brisadog replied 1 year ago.

It must come in a vial like the vaccines, and it must say "sterile". It will not be saline. It will be "sterile water for injection".
