Such coughing with what I believe is a terminal gag that occasionally brings up stomach contents (regurgitation) in a 12 year old is worrisome for congestive heart failure, advanced sterile bronchitis (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/COPD) or perhaps neoplasia (cancer) in the chest cavity. Please don't hesitate to have her vet carefully asucultate (listen to) your dog's heart and lungs and also X-ray them. Time is of the essence because her symptoms can indicate life-threatening disorders.
