My 4year old wire haired dachshund has had diarrhea days.

Customer Question

My 4year old wire haired dachshund has had diarrhea for 3 days. She's eating small amounts of Iams lamb & rice soft dog food and white rice and drinking water. I gave her Imodium yesterday but it hasn't helped. The diarrhea has a very bad smell. She vomited numerous times Friday, but not sense. Any idea? Tks

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you with your wee one today.

What does the diarrhea look like? Any blood?

When was she last wormed?

Are her gums pink or pale/white? Moist or sticky?

If you press on her belly, does she have any discomfort, tenderness, or tensing?

Could she have eaten something she should not have (ie bones, toys, plants, chemicals, etc)?

Since Imodium has a very narrow safety range in dogs, can you tell me how much she had and how much she weighs?
