Customer Question

My 9 week old pug is acting like she is starving all the time.I have been feeding her twice per day. 3 tablespoons of wet food and 3 of dry. She only weighs 1.2 pounds. Am I feeding her enough?

You can tell if she's receiving enough calories by carefully monitoring her weight. As a rough guide the following number of kilocalories is appropriate for puppies up to 50% of their adult weight (at about 5 months of age):

1 lb 116 kilocalories

2 lbs 196 kilocalories

3 lbs 265 kilocalories

4 lbs 329 kilocalories

5 lbs 389 kilocalories

You can find the caloric density (kilocalories per ounce of food) on the food label or on the manufacturer's website. Pugs can be little gluttons and so watching her weight gain and body score carefully are important. The body score is somewhat subjective. Please see here:
