Hello, this is Dr. Jess. One of the side effects we sometimes see in spayed and neutered pets is the possibility of weight gain. This is a result of hormonal changes in the pets after the testicles are removed. That being said, if you practice portion control in your dog, this can be avoided, and the health benefits of neutering (decreased risk of wandering/roaming, decreased chance of prostatic infection, elimination of testicular cancer) outweigh the negatives.
