Flarex has a steroid in it, so I would not give it without first staining the eye to rule out ulcers to the cornea. If there are ulcers, the steroid can make it significantly worse. With ulcers, we treat with an antibiotic drop (neo-poly-gram). If there is not an ulcer and it looks like conjunctivitis, then we use steroids.
The only thing I would put in the eyes right now, is an artificial tear drop. That is safe no matter what the cause. If it doesn't help, then I would get an exam to find out the underlying cause.
