Customer Question

My Chihuahua has had diarrhea since Sunday night.
Monday I started giving her white rice and boiled chicken which she ate that night and twice Tuesday. She slept all day Tuesday. She's been
sleeping most of the time she's not going. Last night she seemed fine; playful, wide awake. Then around 9 starting diarrhea again all night and all day. Every 10-15 minutes. Now when she goes she has a high pitched like howl. I think her butt must be hurting her. Today she hasn't slept at all. Not acting normal though.

Hello, this is Dr. Jess. I am sorry to hear about your poor little pup! So it does sound like she needs to get into your vet's office, but they aren't open today? I would make an appointment for her for tomorrow first thing. In the meantime, I would actually remove any food for a period of 12 hours then start again with small amounts of the chicken and rice. Anything she is taking in orally is going to come right back out her hind end right now! Be sure she does have water to drink. So giving it a little break may be beneficial. You can go to most pet stores and find 2 products you can try at home, one would be a probiotic such as this: to help replenish good bacteria in the GI tract, and the other would be a product containing kaolin and pectin such as this one: to help coat and soothe the GI tract. You can find these at most larger pet stores or tractor supply/feed type stores
