I have a 7 month old husky, who i have been taking to doggy

Customer Question

I have a 7 month old husky, who i have been taking to doggy day care for the past week. Today, they told me they checked her feces and found a parasite (hookworms). She has not shown any symptoms of being sick though. So now I am boarding her at a vet clinic and they have her on Panacur 1gm and Panacur 4gm (sprinkled on to food once daily), and also, Metronidazole 500 mg. My dog is now lethargic, and actually feels sick, when before she was normal. Also she has not passed stool in the past 24 hours. Is this normal??

Hello Melissa,

My name is***** and I will help you.

Is your dog still at the vet clinic or is she home now?

Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Panacur is extremely well tolerated and I have never heard of any side effects.

Metronidazole can have occasional side effects and one is lethargy.

More serious side effects can occur if Lana has some form of liver disease. But being so young that would be unusual.

Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

If Lana is eating normally she should be having bowel movements once or twice daily.

Did you discuss your concerns with the staff at the vet clinic?

Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 1 year ago.

Have the staff notify the vet about Lana's symptoms and not having a bowel movement. Ask them if it could be the Metronidazole.

I hope that Lana will feel better soon.

You can ask me more questions - even after the rating. I'm here to help you.

Good morning Melissa,

Is Lana better this morning? I hope that she is her old self and that she had a bowel movement.

Please let me know.
