Customer Question

My dog ingested a regular size band side containing benzalkonium chloride in the pad. Will this hurt her?

While benzalkonium chloride is considered toxic to dogs, there isn't enough of that disinfectant in a regular size BandAide to intoxicate even the smallest of dogs. Ingesting such an unusual "food", however, can always cause transient gastrointestinal distress as evidenced by inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea. I wouldn't induce emesis or treat in any manner and i wold expect Lexie to remain unaffected. (There are a number of over the counter wound care products for dogs containing this disinfectant.)
