I have a 13 year old Golden Retriever. Over the past few

Customer Question

I have a 13 year old Golden Retriever Bitch.
Over the past few days she has had quite frequent spell of dry reaching as if she has an obstruction or or something irritating.
I have examined her throat and can fell nothing in the way .
When she retches she bring up a small amount of white bubbly fluid.
My Vet insists people pay full amount for consultation /treatment on appointment.
He will not let you pay half this pension day and the rest next pension day .
He recently quoted me $380 for a tooth removal then added on blood test/anaesthtic anti-biotics x-rays up to $880.00
It is a terrible thing to say but quite frankly I cannot find any money to take my dog to the vet.
I am 78 and just don't have a thing left to sell even.
Can you advise me as to whether dogs get obstructions and what can I do for her.
She seems well but her heaving can be quite be quite strenuous ( about 8 heavings on average 6 -8 times a day for
Is there anything I can give her to perhaps clear it.
Thanking you .
Yours sincerely Helen.

Hello & welcome, Helen. I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today. I do apologize that your question was not answered before. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online, read about your wee one’s situation, and wanted to help.

Again I do apologize that my colleagues could not aid you sooner, but can you tell me:

Has she been eating and drinking? Can she keep water down?

Are her gums pink or pale/white? Moist or sticky?

If you press on her belly, does she have any discomfort, tenderness, or tensing?

Could she have eaten something she should not have (ie bones, toys, plants, chemicals, etc)?

Has she had any diarrhea?
