Customer Question

I have an old English sheepdog & noticed him licking at his paw a couple days ago and I looked at it I didn't notice anything major and now tonight he was really licking his paw pad and I took a look and it is very swollen red and looks like it is cut and infected possibly. I looked for foreign objects and couldn't find anything and was wondering what I could do at home before taking him to the vet on Monday I've read different things and I'm not sure how exactly I should clean it and if I should put a gauze on it or not . I wish I could send you a picture because I've never experienced this & not sure how severe it is

He has a swollen toe, shetland sheepdog, Prince. Hes 12, he
he had a plasma cell tumor removed 2 years ago from his back left leg 5th digit. He is followed for it by our vet and an oncologist and that has remained stable. He went to the vet 2 days ago to have his naila trimmed and paws cleaned up and when we got home that night he started limping and wouldn't weoght bare on it. His other paws were evedentally sore too but not so bad. She didnt cut the quick except for his front right which isnt the problem paw. i took him back to the vet today and his back left paw has a swollen toe his 4th digit. It is red and slightly swollen and sore to touch but he is weight baring better on it now but still not back to normal. The vet doeant think its from his nail cutting but he was fine before. She did an xray that just showed soft tissue swelling the bone was ok. There is no dischare and he is not licking it. Should i be worried this is somethinf onco related? we just had his lymph nodes aspirated proximal to this paw causw e grew back his 5th pad but its a pressure point. Both the onco and vet monitor it and it hasnt increased in size. i just dont know wherw he could get an infection out od nowherw if it wasnt from the nail cutting....… read more
