This is called an urticarial reaction - angioedema - similar to hives and wheals but involves deeper layers of Baby's skin. It's considered a delayed hypersensitivity reaction which can arise secondary to vaccinations, drug therapy, envenomation, foods, parasiticides, and other chemicals. In most cases, my patient will remiss unaided within 36 hours but administering an antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) at a dose of 2 mg/lb up to every 8 hours should hasten remission. If you happen to have prednisone at home that steroid should work even better. Please let me know if that's the case and please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
