I have a 15 year old chihuahua. Her teeth are bad and she is experiencing pain, having trouble eating. What is safe for pain for her until I can get her to vet tomorrow?

There are two safe over the counter analgesics to consider. Aspirin can be dosed at 10 mg/lb with food twice daily. Acetaminophen can be dosed at 7 mg/lb thrice daily. You must avoid both ibuprofen and naproxen - both of which are toxic to dogs. Please note that antibiotics will only be palliative when tooth root abscesses are present. These teeth need to be extracted. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
