Customer Question

my yorkie swallowed a pistachio shell. what are the chances he will pass it? Should I try to make him throw up?

Sorry to hear what Mace did.

Well, with some digestion, chances should be fairly good that he can pass the shell. I would not recommend inducing vomiting for a single shell. Inducing vomiting isn't to be ta***** *****ghtly. When a person gives peroxide, the only reason it induces vomiting is because it is a irritant to the stomach lining. So, that very well is worse than ingesting the shell.

Right now, there just isn't a great reason to be taking any different action, and I would also not feed any differently. Why?

Well, you don't want to change anything so if Mace were to get sick, we would know for sure it's the shell causing it.

Hope that information helps

You are very welcome. Good Luck.

Remember, if any illness does develop, than get to your vet for evaluation. It's two different issues.

1. Could it cause obstruction. Probably not

2. But, could it still cause any stomach or intestinal upset.

Keep a watch.

I hope my responses were satisfactory.
