My dog is 13 lbs. pomeranian. In pain, crying since last night. May have been hit by a car. Still walking, lying down, eating, drinking, urinating, and defecating. Cannot see vet til Monday. Can I give him aspirin and what dose?

Hello, I'm Dr. Deb and will do my best to help you today.

I'm sorry for this concern about your dog. At least he's still eating and drinking which is a good thing since he's less likely to have any internal injuries (if he was hit by a car).

As long as he's not vomiting and not currently taking any steroids or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, then Aspirin can be given since it also has anti-pain properties. The dose for a 13 lb dog would be 1.5 of the low dose (81 mg) kind twice a day with food to avoid stomach upset.

My only hesitation about its use would be that it might interfere with what your vet woudl want to prescribe if he has to be seen but several doses should be fine.

I hope this helps and that he's feeling better soon. Deb
