Customer Question

My dog is hasn't been able to eat his food regularly. I noticed when he eats he has a discomfort look on his face but I can also tell he is very hungry. So I initially thought the food might be too hard for him to eat, so I would mix a little water with it and a little bit of Purina Pro sensitive canned food in. He has also dropped weight because I can now see his ribs, hip bones and backbone. He also has started throwing up everyday for the past 3 days and it smells terrible. I am trying to get him into the vet but with the holiday they are closed till Saturday.

He just threw up 2 more times. All a green/yellowish color. I'm assuming bile. I don't know what to do. It kills me to see him in such bad shape.

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today. I do apologize that your question was not answered before. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online, read about your situation, and wanted to help.

Again I do apologize that my colleagues could not aid you sooner. If you would still like assistance, can you tell me:

How long has he had these signs?

Does he eat better with the softer foods?

Is he able to drink? Can he keep any water down?

Are his gums nice and pink (not white/pale)? Moist or sticky?

If you press on his belly, does he have any tensing, tenderness, discomfort, or pain?

Could he have eaten anything he should not have (ie bones, toys, plants, chemicals, human meds, etc)?
