We have a standard poodle 7 months old who has eaten 100 g

Customer Question

We have a standard poodle 7 months old who has eaten 100 g of Lindt Orange Intense Dark Chocolate some time in the past 3 hours. At the moment he is showing no signs of toxicity, resting quietly in his crate. Should we be taking him to a local emergency vet for charcoal or...?

Hi, I can help you with your question today. How much does Innis weigh?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
42 lbs

OK, at his weight, we are likely to see vomiting and diarrhea. Depending on his sensitivity, he could also have cardiac effects. I do recommend taking him to the emergency hospital to induce vomiting. They may recommend hospitalization on IV fluids and frequent trips to urinate to clear the theobromine from his system.

Thanks. We will do that.

Hi Lawrence,
I'm just following up on our conversation about Innis. How is everything going?

Our dog is fine. We spoke with a representative of the guide dog group overseeing our dog and he suggested giving him hydrogen peroxide which we did and which induced vomiting. All is good.
