Customer Question

Customer: Hello Dr. ***** ***** M.: My name is Lewis. My dog is a medium sized mutt about 3-2 years old. He is neutered, current on vaccines and HW preventative. He is usually a high-energy bouncy boy. This evening he is not himself. He is lethargic, has a temp of 98.6, his gums are pale, feet are cold, his GI sounds calm, heart rate and respiratory rates are normal for a dog at rest. Any ideas what could be going on with him?
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: Like what?
JA: OK got it. Last thing — JustAnswer charges a fee (generally around $19) to post your type of question to Dog Veterinary Experts (you only pay if satisfied). There are a couple customers ahead of you. Are you willing to wait a bit?
Customer: Yes.
JA: OK. Now I'm going to take you to a page to place a secure deposit with JustAnswer. Don't worry, this chat is saved. After that, we will finish helping you.

Welcome to Justanswer! I am Dr. Altman and happy to assist you both today!

I am very concerned about your dog if he has pale gums. This is an indicator of shock either from bleeding internally (into chest, abdomen), reduced red cell production, toxin (rat poison), immune mediated disease (the body attacks his own red blood cells), parasites, or trauma.

If he is pale pink this might be able to wait until morning but I really am concerned with a low body temperature and pale gums about organ function and if there is any possibility of a veterinary er in your area please take this into consideration and have him seen tonight.

I do not recommend this lightly but this scenario does urge me to seek emergency care for your beloved friend

Please let me know how else I can assist you both tonight
