I have a two month old puppy. American Staffordshire

Customer Question

I have a two month old puppy. American Staffordshire terrier/mastiff mix. He's breathing very rapidly. Over 100 very shallow breaths a minute. He lays down but doesn't stay comfortable for more than 2-3 minutes before he moves around again. Very concerned. Should I be?

Hello I am Dr. Joey. Thanks for trusting me to help you and your pet today. I am a licensed veterinarian with over 16 years of experience. I look forward to working with you.

Based on Buster's age and what you report, then answer is yes you should be concerned. IF he is unable to settle and seems highly agitated for another 30 minutes, then I would recommend take him to your closest emergency clinic for an exam (at least a triage with the nurse to ensure he is okay). At this age, he is too young to do a wait-and-see approach with this for concern it could be pneumonia or heart issues or a painful problem.

I am not sure what further questions you have, but am happy to answer those you may have. I hope that the information I provided has been helpful.

Please let me know if for any reason you need further clarification, have more questions, or were expecting a different type of answer.
