Customer Question

two 50 lb. dogs had a fight. One is limping really bad and can't put leg down yet. What can I give her to help with pain? Ibuprofen, Advil, generic Keflex 500 mg or generic NORCO 10-325 tablet. Also have generic Flexeril 10 mg. These are some left over meds I did not need to take. Please tell me what will help.

Hi, this is Dr. Gabby.

To prevent infection I would do 500 mg of Cephalexin every 12 hours for 7 days. Give it with food to help prevent gastrointestinal upset.

The only safe over the counter pain medication you can give dogs is aspirin. 325 mg every 12 hours with food.

Dogs can NOT take ibuprofen, advil, norco, or flexeril. All are toxic.

Does that help? Do you have any additional questions?
