Customer Question

My dog has several small bumps on her head, some with what seems like scabs. She does not scratch at then but I see some discomfort when I touch them. Any ideas?

I understand. If the bumps represent a hypersensitivity reaction (hives, wheals), Astro should remiss unaided within a few days. If they represent pyoderma (bacterial skin infection) instead, she's likely to need a systemic antibiotic in the cephalosporin class such as cephalexin for 3-4 weeks and 1 week past clinical signs. Shampooing that area in an antimicrobial shampoo containing either chlorhexidine (Hebiclens, e.g.) or benzoyl peroxide every few days should hasten resolution. These shmapoos are available over the counter or at Astro's vet hospital. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
