Customer Question

I have a almost 8 year old pug mix dog very small weighs 5 lbs at last check in my problem is she has been house trained forever but lately has been taken to peeing on the floor every time i leave the house for more than 5 min with out her. I rent my apartment it tile floor and it i just moved into a new unit so i don't want to be zapped for this any suggestion would be helpful i can even just go to the trash room and she has peed i take her out every 2-3 hours on a regular bases so that is not the problem and know she has no kidney problems or uti I just took her to vet to rule all that out

Hello, this is Dr. Jess. I am sorry to hear about Boots new problem! So your vet did bloodwork and urine testing to be sure there wasn't a medical cause for this?

Have things changed in your schedule or home situation recently? Is she having any other abnormal behaviors at home?

only real change is that we always spent aloot of time at my friends house or she was there and past month my friend was in hospital and now i take her to my friends house still stay there to taske care if her cat and help her now but Boots goes with me 's when she pees
when we do that so other than that no she just doesn't like to be left alone and when she does that

If your vet did bloodwork and urinalysis, and it all looked good, then this may be a behavioral/separation anxiety issue.

I have attached 2 articles below on this condition for you:

Depending on the severity, prescription medicaiton is sometimes needed, but sometimes there are over the counter things you can try that for some dogs will be enough. These include things like

The thundershirt:

Pheremone collars or diffusers like Adaptil:

And supplements such as Composure or Zylkene:

I hope that gives you some info to work with, and let me know if you have any questions!
