My dog needs a sedative so that I can have some alone time

Customer Question

My dog needs a sedative so that I can have some alone time with my significant other without him trying to break down the door, etc. Is there something OTC that I can give him. He is a 100 lb. pit mix.

I wish there were and I understand your frustration. There's simply nothing available over the counter of value. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is always mentioned but it won't do the trick for you. In my experience it will take either a prescription benzodiazepine such as alprazolam (Xanax) or clorazepate or, preferably, a prescription tranquilizer such as Acepromazine. These drugs need to be prescribed by Bosco's vet. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

I'm just following up on our conversation about Bosco. How is everything going?
