I just got home and found my dog ate a package of vanilla

Customer Question

I just got home and found my dog ate a package of vanilla and chocolate cookies. I don't have a car to take her to the vet, what can I do in the meantime. She seems fine, I estimate she ate them about an hour ago

Hello, and thanks for writing in...

Since you have a large breed dog, eating a package of cookies will be unlikely to cause problems, other than possible stomach upset (possibly vomiting or diarrhea over the next 1-2 days), which should take care of itself...

How will I know if I should take her to the vet
Expert:  Dr. Dave replied 1 year ago.

Certainly if she were to show significant digestive problems, she may need to be examined by a veterinarian to get medication to help settle down her digestive tract, so I would watch her for the next 1-2 days for vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, or lethargy, and call your veterinarian if any abnormal symptoms arise.
