Yesterday when my dog had her they found below her mouth white spots. They took a sample to have a biopsy. The vet told that dogs do not have cankers ... my dog is taling now clavamoux ... an antibiotic ? Two questions ; Why did the vet prescribe an antibiotic if she does mot know what it is yet? I found a lot of information on line regarding sore mouth or mouth cankers in dogs

my last question is. Why did the vet tell me that dogs do not have mouth cankers?

Dogs don't experience the same pathological process that results in canker sores in people but they certainly can develop similar appearing lesions - sores that can indicate systemic disorders such as uremic kidney failure or oral disease such as stomatitis, severe periodontitis/"kissing lesions" on the inside surfaces of the cheeks, and/or tooth root abscessation. I prefer not to prescribe an antibiotic unless there's obvious evidence of infection. I need to see those white spots to be more accurate but infection wouldn't be my initial thought when I saw white spots. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
