My dog a Shih Tzu is scheduled to go under anesthesia this

Customer Question

My dog a Shih Tzu is scheduled to go under anesthesia this afternoon at 1:00 for teeth cleaning. She has been NPO since 9:00 pm. This morning my toddler gave her a few Cheerios which she ate. Is it safe for her to have surgery?

Yes. Fasting is less important nowadays because the preansethetic and anesthetic agents we now use rarely induce emesis. I don't ever restrict water in these patients. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
